My Thinking

I wish you could walk in my shoes
And I could walk in yours
I wish when you saw tears form
You knew why they feel from my eyes
I wish you knew my thought process
And I knew yours
I wish when you saw anger form in my expressions
You knew what I am feeling at that moment
I wish you could see the compassion in what I am doing
And I could see yours
I wish you saw my heart exploding
You would know I find great pride in this journey
We are four people
Willing to give a year of our lives
To serve a community
To learn how to live together
We don’t always have to like each other
Or understand people’s thinking and emotions
But try to find a common ground
And live as peacefully and simply as we can

Community Barbecue

Hello everybody! It's Minnesota Sarah again :) I am excited to be blogging about an event that happened this Saturday. We hosted our first community house barbecue; attendees included housemates, church members and coworkers. We had a BYOM (bring your own meat ) party, but I think people thought it was a BYOA(bring your own animal) party. WE HAD SOOOO MUCH FOOD! As poor volunteers we especially enjoyed this aspect.

Before the event began I told Sarah Marie that we should fill up water balloons for the children to play with. I'm pretty sure Sarah Marie was cursing me and my idea as we spent an hour fighting with water balloons and our sink ;) Between the water balloon toss, which inevitably turned into a water balloon fight, and badminton we had enough for the children to remain occupied and in good spirits. Although at some point, from the safety of our screened in porch, I made a harmless observation that Sarah Marie had yet to be hit with a water balloon. The children jumped on the opportunity to pelt their Sunday School Leader with water balloons. Naturally I thought this was hilarious. Unfortunately I don't think Sarah Marie agreed. However, she is a fantastic sport and took it in good stride.

The evening was filled with great food and lots of laughter. We had such a wonderful turnout, and I'm so grateful that people came over. It's events like these that make me love being in a community. Some of our church members drove for over an hour to be at the barbecue. We felt like hosting this event was a great way to give back to the church people, because they do so much for us. We are hoping to host another event in August, and I am going to push for getting a bouncy house. Bouncy houses make everything more fun.

I am so glad that we have the opportunity to connect with people from our church. They have taken such an interest in our lives and well being. They are an incredible blessing and a great resource, and I am so grateful for each and every one of them.

Thanks for reading :)
